For Brits nearing retirement, it can be tempting to settle abroad. The World Economic Forum has found the best countries in the world to retire.
Panama was ranked as the best country in the world for retirement. The Central American country is one of only three carbon negative countries.
Panama is famous for its shipping canal and also has some of the world’s most beautiful beaches and wildlife.
Starfish Beach is one of the country’s top attractions, and many tourists visit the funky fish.
A visitor wrote on Tripadvisor: “This is one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve visited.”

Panama may not be the first place Britons think of when it comes to retiring abroad, but the country has excellent hospitals.
According to the World Economic Forum, medical facilities are easily accessible from most of the country.
Panama also enjoys a warm tropical climate but is rarely affected by hurricanes. Many retired expats choose to live in beach communities.
Other options include staying in the mountains, such as in Boquete, a charming postcard town.

Many expats choose to settle near Mexico’s beach resorts and will find housing much more affordable than in the UK.
Closer to home, Portugal was also in the top five best countries in the world for retirement.
Portugal has a lower cost of living than the UK and Lisbon is one of the most affordable capitals in Western Europe.
The country also has low crime rates and excellent golfing opportunities in the southern Algarve.
