The experts began sharing the exact time passengers should arrive at the airport to increase their chances of an upgrade.
When going to the airport, most travelers arrive with enough time to check in luggage and go through security.
However, many people don’t realize that the time you check in can affect your chances of an upgrade.
The experts revealed, “If you want to increase your chances of a free first-class seat, try checking in very early or at the last minute.
“Arriving several hours early for your flight will give you the best chance of staying ahead of the competition for first class or business tickets — and avoiding missing out on someone who was there for you.
“Chances are if the economy cabin is overbooked, airlines will want to rectify this sooner rather than later to avoid delays.”
The experts revealed that the clothes passengers wear can increase the chances of an upgrade.
“While dressing in your best clothes doesn’t guarantee an upgrade, a smart outfit will definitely increase your chances of being chosen,” they explained.
To be flexible
It’s not uncommon for some airlines to overbook flights, sometimes forcing them to bump passengers onto another flight.
The experts advised: “If the airline is looking for volunteers to take a later flight, take the opportunity as it could lead to a free upgrade for your issues.
“If a first class ticket isn’t offered and you’ve been bumped (voluntarily or not), it’s always worth asking if they can upgrade your ticket because of the inconvenience.”
It is also common for cabin crew on flights to be asked to move to a new seat.
“While this can be inconvenient, it can be to your advantage if you are flexible.
“Say yes to being moved and you could land with a first-class seat – if not, it’s always worth asking for an upgrade for your problems,” the travel expert advised.
A spokesperson for Forbes Advisor advised those booking first class tickets: “Many people would love to have the chance to experience a first class flight, many of us have often dreamed of champagne on tap, ultimate legroom and complimentary toiletries.
“If you want to book a first class flight, make sure you only book directly with your airline or through a reputable website to avoid scams.”
