Tourists should keep dirty clothes separate from clean ones, as bed bugs are likely attracted to dirty items.

Bed bugs are small, oval, brown insects with flat bodies and the size of an apple seed.

The creatures will generally bite the skin exposed while humans sleep, normally the head, arms or legs.

Bites are normally in clusters and may look like raised red bumps with a dark spot in the center.
