On Sunday, July 24, traffic turned the route into a “holiday hell hotspot” as drivers had to wait in traffic around Folkestone.
Officials have activated Post-Brexit Operation Brock, a counter-current system that keeps traffic on the M20 so cars on surrounding roads can continue to move freely.
Motorists reported waiting in line for three hours or more, with Twitter user David Cheesman saying “nobody” was moving and that he had “no chance” of making his scheduled departure.
The countercurrent is currently in use, suggesting high traffic remains in the area.
