A baggage handler has revealed that some types of suitcases are more likely to be “thrown” when loaded onto an airplane. Disaster cop Rachel Bacha, posting on her viral TikTok account under the username @rachel.bachasaid the key to you luggage not being thrown into the load is by having more wheels.
She shared the insight as part of her series “Everything you need to know about a suitcase coming out of a baggage handler”.
Rachel said, “When you buy a suitcase, buy a four-wheeled bag for several reasons.”
The first is to make sure your bag arrives safely at its destination, without being forcibly moved along the cargo hold.
Wheels can make bag loading much easier for baggage handlers, who often work to a very strict deadline.
Rachel explained: “There are people who load your bags on the planes and some planes have really long cargo bins, and in some airports they don’t have a machine that brings all the bags to you in the bin.

The baggage handler explained: “[When] you are traveling and you go to the ticket counter and you have so many things, you have to take out your boarding pass and your ID, a four wheel bag goes on its own.
“Moral of the story, a bag on four wheels is going to protect your bag and it’s easier and more convenient.”
Rachel recommends opting for a hard case instead of a soft case as this protects the items inside.
Passengers are also advised to be careful about the type of luggage they pack, as certain delicate loads can be damaged in transit if not adequately protected.
Any delicate or fragile items should be wrapped in packing material or your clothing to add an extra layer of support.
