Good news for those who miss Thailand! From May 1, it will be easier (or less difficult) to visit the Land of Smiles!
But of course, Thailand, like many others, is implementing an extra layer of security to protect both its citizens and visitors – the QR code of the Thailand pass† This is required for travelers arriving by air and land.

WHAT IS COVERED IN THIS MANUAL?
Depending on your vaccination status and destination, there are different entry options for international travelers wishing to visit Thailand. The parameters and requirements for each change frequently, so it’s better to use the . to visit official site for the latest updates and more details.
But to give you a quick overview, here are the requirements:
If you are traveling ON or AFTER May 1, 2022
For fully vaccinated travelers
- Thailand Pass Registration
- Valid passport
- Vaccination Certificate
- Insurance with minimum USD 10,000 coverage for medical treatment in Thailand (for non-Thai travelers only). Please note that this has been reduced from the previous USD 20,000 required for travelers traveling before May 1.
COVID-19 test is no longer necessary.
For unvaccinated travelers
OPTION A. Travelers with a negative RT-PCR test result released within 72 hours prior to travel must present the following:
- Thailand Pass Registration
- Valid passport
- negative RT-PCR test result released within 72 hours prior to travel
- Insurance with minimum USD 10,000 coverage for medical treatment in Thailand (for non-Thai travelers only).
- PLEASE NOTE: Additional COVID-19 testing on or after arrival in Thailand will NOT be performed.
OPTION B. Travelers who CANNOT present RT-PCR test result within 72 hours prior to travel or those who prefer to quarantine must provide the following:
- Thailand Pass Registration
- Valid passport
- Confirmed alternative quarantine (AQ) hotel booking for 5 days (including 1 RT-PCR test)
- Insurance with minimum USD 10,000 coverage for medical treatment in Thailand (for non-Thai travelers only).
- NOTE: RT-PCR testing on days 4–5 of mandatory quarantine is required.
If you travel VR May 1, 2022
These are the three entry options for international travelers from all countries of the world who want to visit Thailand.
TEST & GO program
Fully vaccinated tourists travel to Thailand By plane are eligible for this program. Travelers who received a negative RT-PCR test result on their first COVID-19 test can travel anywhere in Thailand.
On the fifth day, travelers must complete an Antigen Testing Kit (ATK) self-test. The test result must be reported using the Mor Chana mobile app, so you need to download it.
Travelers covered by this program must secure the following:
- Paid 1-night SHA Extra Plus or AQ hotel booking confirmation
- Airport transfer to hotel
- One RT-PCR test to be done on Day 1
- One self-ATK test to be taken on Day 5 (if staying in Thailand for more than five days)
- Paid flight confirmation before departure (for stays of less than five nights)
Blue Zone Sandbox Program
Blue Zones, also known as Sandboxes, are areas in Thailand where at least 70% of the population has been fully vaccinated. Fully vaccinated tourists travel to Thailand By plane are eligible for this program. Travelers must stay within the Sanbox areas for five days, but they must first obtain a negative result from the first RT-PCR test before being allowed to travel within the blue zone.
On the fifth day, travelers must complete an Antigen Testing Kit (ATK) self-test. After a negative result, travelers can now explore other destinations in Thailand. The test result must be reported using the Mor Chana mobile app, so you need to download it.
Travelers covered by this program must secure the following:
- Paid 5-night SHA Extra Plus hotel booking confirmation within the Sandbox area
- Airport transfer to hotel
- One RT-PCR test to be performed on Day 1
- You will receive a self-ATK test to be taken on day 5 (if staying in Thailand for more than five days)
- Paid flight confirmation before departure (for stays of less than five nights)
Some of the Sandbox destinations are Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Phang-Nga and Surat Thani. You can check out the full list of Blue Zone Sandbox destinations on the Thai Embassy official website.
Attention! At the time of writing, travelers to Ko Samui, Ko Pha-ngan and Ko Tao are required to take the initial RT-PCR test upon arrival at Samui International Airport.
Alternative quarantine program
Alternative quarantine, also known as Happy Quarantine, is a program or arrangement for unvaccinated or partially vaccinated travelers like tourists entering Thailand PER COUNTRY† Travelers must stay in a government-approved quarantine hotel for five (5) days.
Alternative quarantine hotels usually cover the following:
- 5-night stay at a government-approved AQ hotel or similar government-approved facility
- Airport Transfers
- 24-hour medical/health supervision
- Full board meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
- Free WIFI
- COVID-19 tests
- Other services (depending on the hotel promo/offer)
As you can see above, NOT ALL travelers are required to present a confirmed accommodation booking. However, depending on your travel date and your vaccination status, you may be required to provide proof that you have a confirmed reservation at a government-approved SHA (Safety and Health Administration) Extra Plus hotel or an AQ (Alternative Quarantine) hotel. This must be verified by the system in order to obtain a Thailand Pass.

1. Book your hotel on Agoda.

Make sure to book an accommodation suitable for your way of entering Thailand. SHA++ are marked on the label.
On the other hand, quarantine hotels have something like this on the accommodation page.
2. Register for Thailand Pass.
All travelers must request a QR code of the Thailand Pass. Go to the Thailand Pass Registration Website†
You must register within seven (7) to 60 days of your departure.
3. Enter your Agoda Booking ID.
- In the hotel booking information section, check the “Booking with Agoda” box.
- Go to the Booking ID section (third line) and enter your booking ID.
- All other fields are automatically filled in when entering your booking ID. Then click on the “Check my booking” button.
Voila! You will immediately receive your booking confirmation.
Remark: If you miss a requirement or document (airport pick-up or COVID-19 test), you will be notified. You must upload the payment confirmation for the document you are missing. To avoid the hassle and extra steps, make sure you book a room package that includes all the airport pick-up and RT-PCR test.
The approval takes a maximum of seven (7) days. You can check your email for the approved application and your Thailand Pass QR code.
- Full hotel package options, including airport pick-up and RT-PCR test (if applicable).
- Booking ID to easily complete the hotel booking information section of your Thailand Pass registration.
- Instant booking validation for Thailand Pass registration.
- Immediate notification for missing documents during your Thailand Pass application.
SHA Extra Plus
The SHA (Safety and Health Administration) Plus certification is led by the Tourism Authority of Thailand to ensure maximum safety standards are adhered to to protect citizens and tourists alike and revitalize Thailand’s tourism industry.
- SHA Extra Plus hotels or accommodations are those that meet the requirements, including at least 70% of staff who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, as determined by Amazing Thailand SHA Plus.
- Properties with Extra Plus (SHA++) certifications are those with hospital partnerships that can perform an RT-PCR test.
- SHA Extra Plus hotels or accommodations can be booked by FULLY VACCINED tourists traveling to Thailand.
- For those traveling before May 1, the Test & Go package must include an RT-PCR test and an Antigen Test Kit (ATK), while the Blue Zone Sandbox package must include an RT-PCR test.
- Please contact the hotel management for the inclusion of meals and other services.
Alternative quarantine (AQ)
Alternative quarantine is a quarantine process conducted in government certified quarantine hotels in Thailand.
- AQ hotels or accommodations are those approved by the government. They are working with select hospitals to manage the quarantine service inclusions. All costs are borne by the travelers.
- AQ hotels or accommodations can be booked by NON-VACCINED tourists traveling to Thailand. The quarantine period is five (5) nights, starting on the day of arrival.
- AQ 5-day quarantine package must include: full board meals (three meals per day), airport transfer to hotel, on-site nurse, free WiFi and COVID-19 testing.
- Please contact the hotel for other services including snacks, consultation with a doctor, etc.
